We offer a postdoctoral position to work on the project "Expanding Shells near Supermassive Black Holes", which aims to explore whether and when the shells expanding from supernova events in nuclear star clusters may bring new gas to the SMBH.
The postdoctoral researcher will perform simplified hydrodynamical simulations using the infinitesimally thin layer approximation in 3D, which will be combined with full hydrodynamic simulations with the code FLASH. The simulations will be applied to the supernova remnant Sgr A East. We plan to discover whether the mass collected in the shell can reach the central region inside of the torus of gas surrounding the SMBH of the Milky Way. Computational skills, high motivation and ability to work independently as well as in the team collaboration are expected. The position is available since mid 2019 for 1 year, after which it can be prolonged until end of 2021 based on succesful performance. The monthly salary is about 1.3 x average salary in the Czech Republic, the travel funds are available in the project.
