The duration of the post is up to three years, available from May 1, 2018, but both earlier and later starting dates are negotiable. The initial contract is for one year, renewable for a further two years subject to performance. The monthly gross salary is 50 000 CZK from which tax, social and health insurance are deducted. An annual travel budget of at least 100 000 CZK is offered. Candidates are expected to have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field.
Successful candidates are expected to become active (if they are not already) in the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) project and/or the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC). Further information about LSST and DESC can be found at http://www.lsst.org/ and http://lsst-desc.org/.
Successful candidates will work on any of the following areas of research:
- Establishing a laboratory within the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences for extensive testing of CCD and CMOS detectors for astronomical applications;
- Characterization of CCD sensors and science rafts during production and commissioning; optimization of performance of the LSST camera and electronics; understanding of limitations for science observables coming from the instrument
- LSST science preparations; development and optimization of tools for processing scientific data and data management
- DESC software development; running and developing of various simulations; study of dark energy probes and observables
- Test new photosensitive detectors for next-generation cosmological surveys
