Job Description

Applications are invited for up to four post-doctoral research positions at the Universities of Ferrara, Milan, Bologna, and at the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) in Italy. The successful applicants will work in a team of about 20 people coordinated by Piero Rosati on the project “Zooming into dark matter and proto-galaxies with massive lensing clusters”. The positions are intended for outstanding early career scientists who will carry out research in at least one of the following areas: a) spectrophotometric studies of galaxies/galaxy clusters; b) strong gravitational lensing; c) cosmological simulations of galaxy clusters; d) high-redshift galaxy evolution, epoch of re-ionization, first stars and galaxies. Available resources include large datasets from major HST and VLT imaging and spectroscopic programs and from different cosmological simulations. The postdocs will receive support for computing, travel and publication expenses and are expected to collaborate with the entire team. The initial appointments are for two years, with a net monthly salary of approximately 2000 Euro. Renewals for a third year are subject to performance and availability of funds. The appointments are expected to be advertised over the next months, starting before November 2020, and require the completion of a PhD. Informal expressions of interest (including a one-page statement of research interests, publication list and CV) and enquiries can be addressed by December 15 to: Piero Rosati ([email protected]) and Claudio Grillo ([email protected]).
