We invite applications for two postdoctoral research appointments that are related to neutron star X-ray binaries and the multi-wavelength radiation properties. This project is the core program of the Chinese Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT) which was launched in the summer of 2017. HXMT is the new X-ray telescope covering 1 – 250 keV with high resolution timing, focusing on the compact objects and related sciences. The projects will be supported by the School of Physics and Technology, Wuhan University. The Center for Astrophysics in Wuhan University has 6 faculties now, the main science interests are high energy astrophysics and gravitational waves. The successful applicant will work together with Prof Wei Wang and other faculties at Wuhan University to analyze the X-ray data of HXMT, and study the multi-wavelength properties with collaborations with the National Astronomical Observatories of China and Tsing Hua University. The appointment will be for two years, renewable for one more year subject to a performance evaluation.
Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or related fields, completed or expected by the effective date, and a demonstrated record of research excellence. The people will be considered a priority if the candidates have some experience in data analysis in X-ray telescopes like INTEGRAL, SWIFT, NuStar, RXTE. The fellowship is open to highly qualified researchers of all nationalities who received their PhD no more than five years prior to the deadlines of the corresponding applications.
SALARY: 250 000 RMB/year or higher depending on qualifications and experience
