Job Announcement Text:

Prof. Kyungjin Ahn at Chosun University seeks a postdoctoral scholar in the field of theoretical astrophysics and computational cosmology. The research lab of Prof. Ahn is actively performing both independent and collaborative research projects, and has a research-friendly environment with a dedicated high-performance computer system (256-core CPU linux cluster). The lab also has access to some of the PRACE and XSEDE HPC machines through international collaboration.

A successful candidate will work for the project "Numerical Simulation of the Cosmic Dawn and Forecasting the Observables of the Next-Generation Radio Telescopes", and is expected to work in one (or a few) of the following subjects:

(1) cosmological N-body (+hydro) (+radiation transfer) simulation for study of cosmology / cosmic reionization

(2) theory- and apparatus-based forecast of multiwave observation of high-redshift objects

(3) 21-cm -- galaxy cross-correlation for low-redshift cosmology

(4) Bayesian inference of astrophysical/cosmological parameters from CMB/galaxy survey

Any research experience or technical skill sets suited for above subjects better be stressed in the research statement. Experience in any of AMR hydro (Enzo/Ramses), moving-mesh hydro (Arepo), N-body simulation, radiation transfer simulation, COSMOMC/PolyChord, and statistical/machine-learning analysis of CMB/galaxy survey data will be valued highly. A successful candidate is also expected to have frequent visits to the Cosmology Group of the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), to which the employer has a close collaborative connection. Such visits will be fully subsidized.

The term is three(3) years (Jan. 1st, 2022 - Dec. 31st, 2024), and can be extended to one(1) more year depending on the candidate's performance. If difficult to meet the starting date, the candidate can ask for at most 60-day deferrence. The annual salary is 47,000,000 KRW (~ 40,300 USD). Separate benefits include the health insurance, pension, and travel expenses.

Any applicant is expected to have obtained a PhD no later than the starting date, as late as Mar. 1st, 2022, and should submit (1) CV with list of publications, (2) research statement (~2 pages), and (3) arrange two(2) recommendation letters. The recommendation letters should be signed and sent directly by the referees. All documents should be in the pdf format and sent as email attachments to [email protected]. Any inquiries are welcome.
