Job Description

The Physics Department of Ariel University is seeking qualified candidates for PhD positions in exoplanet science, in the research group of Dr. Lev Tal-Or.

Lev’s primary research interests are:

  • Planet detection by means of Doppler spectroscopy.
  • Transiting-planet detection and characterization.
  • Atmospheric characterization of planets.
  • Stellar activity and planet habitability.

Candidates should have a master’s degree in physics, astrophysics, planetary sciences, computer science, or equivalent. The research work consists of numerical data analysis and astronomical observations. Preference will be given to excellent researchers and students, with experience in one of the above fields.

We seek enthusiastic and devoted candidates, willing to work in a dynamic environment, and capable of fastly developing new skills. A successful candidate will benefit from access to a high-performance computational facility and strong ties with several research groups worldwide. PhD positions are for 4 years. One-year internship for students already enrolled in a PhD program is also possible.

The annual fellowship is set by a predetermined matrix from the University. The start date is expected to be Summer 2021, although delays due to the covid-19 pandemic might arise.
