Job Description

The Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral research position in Theoretical Stellar Astrophysics starting in summer/fall 2018 (date negotiable).

The successful applicant will join the "Physics of Stellar Objects" group led by Prof. Friedrich Roepke. This group targets at performing large-scale simulations of processes in stellar astrophysics including supernova explosions, neutron star mergers, stellar structure, and evolution and binary stellar interaction. Candidates with strong backgrounds in developing massively parallel simulation codes, in numerical fluid dynamics, and in radiative transfer modeling are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition to performing research in theoretical stellar astrophysics, support and co-supervision of doctoral students is welcome.

HITS is a private non-profit research institute carrying out multidisciplinary research in astrophysics, mathematics, and computational sciences. It offers generous benefits. The successful candidate will have access to a powerful in-house compute infrastructure with several clusters. HITS is part of the vibrant astronomical research community of the Centre for Astronomy at Heidelberg University, the largest university-based astronomy group within Germany.

To apply, please enter your application, consisting of a full curriculum vitae, a publication list, and a statement of research interests via the provided link to the HITS online application system (HITS-06-2017). You will also be asked to supply the contact details of three referees who are willing to send a letter of recommendation on the applicant's behalf.

Applications must be submitted by Dec 15, 2017 via the online system.
