Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral researchers to join the new high-redshift quasar research team at Southampton led by Dr. Manda Banerji. The focus will be on exploiting large spectroscopic surveys of high-redshift quasars to understand the physics of accretion and AGN feedback in the early Universe, and the analysis of long-wavelength observations of quasars and their host galaxies with Herschel, ALMA and radio surveys. We are involved in a number of exciting projects aimed at a new understanding of supermassive black hole activity in the early Universe. These include membership of the Guaranteed Time Observing (GTO) teams for the upcoming wide-field spectroscopic surveys with the VISTA 4MOST and VLT-MOONS instruments, as well as membership of the LSST:UK Consortium. We also have access to data from Herschel and ALMA large programs allowing synergistic multi-wavelength studies of high-redshift quasars. As a member of our team, you will have privileged access to several of these proprietary datasets during the early phase of these experiments, and the opportunity to shape your own independent research program within large collaborations.

To be successful you will have a PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics (or expected  by October 2023 at the latest). Previous experience with Active Galactic Nuclei research is not a pre-requisite but experience with analysing and exploiting large spectroscopic datasets and/or submillimeter to radio interferometric observations, will be considered an asset. In return we offer you a welcoming and inclusive research environment and encourage those from under-represented groups in Physics and Astronomy to apply.

The posts are available for 2+1 years due to funding restrictions.
