The large Hubble Space Telescope program entitled the Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Southern Treasury (PHAST) survey is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to help analyze the imaging from the survey. Applications are solicited for a postdoctoral position to work with Dr. Benjamin Williams in the Astronomy Department at the University of Washington in Seattle, wa. In addition to carrying out a vigorous research program on matters of mutual scientific interest with Dr. Williams and the PHAST collaboration, candidates will develop a pipeline to optimize the photometric measurements from the PHAST images and to perform crowded-field photometry, and star/galaxy separation on those images. The photometry catalog will then be available to the Postdoctoral Scholar for science investigations ranging from model fitting individual stars of interest to measuring age and metallicity distributions of the sample. This position will also be involved in the interpretation and publication of these results in the context of the formation and evolution of the Andromeda galaxy.

A PhD or foreign equivalent in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. Expertise in generating and working with large catalogs of stellar photometry, and research involving stellar populations.
