Job Summary
Job Description
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in time-domain and multi-messenger astrophysics. The position is for two years and extendable for a third year, depending on performance and continued funding. The position is funded through the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), for work on-site at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).
The complete application will consist of a curriculum vitae (max 2 pp), a publication list, and a statement of research interests (max 3 pp). This information should be submitted as a single PDF file via electronic mail to Dr. Alexander Kutyrev ([email protected]). Applicants should also instruct two references to submit letters of recommendation to the same email address with the applicant's name in the subject field. All requested information must be submitted for your application to be considered. Applications (including reference letters) received by September 1, 2022 will receive full consideration, later applications will be considered until the position is filled.
Applicants should have experience in observational astronomy and in particular in photometry and image processing in either optical or infrared bands. The focus of the work will be on the development of the data processing pipeline using Python programming language and astronomical photometry processing libraries. The successful candidate will lead and participate in observations of transient objects with the new wide field infrared camera at South African Astronomical Observatory, including gravitational wave counterparts, kilonovae, supernovae, and gamma-ray bursts. Previous experience in optical/IR spectroscopy would be a plus. A candidate must have received their Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field prior to beginning their appointment.
