Job Description

The role

Applications are invited for two separate Postdoctoral Research Associate (or in exceptional circumstances Senior Research Associate) positions, working in the field of exoplanets in the Astrophysics Group at the University of Bristol. The first position in Exoplanet Spectroscopy will involve the development of analysis tools to work with guaranteed time observations from the James Webb Space Telescope to measure the atmospheric spectra of transiting exoplanets. The second position in Exoplanet Formation will involve using numerical methods to investigate the connection between planetary embryo impacts and extreme debris disks. In each position, there will be freedom to direct the project and the opportunity to pursue your own research aligned with the overall goals of the advertised positions.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidates will sit in the astrophysics group which consists of 20 researchers, students and support staff, including six academic staff. The group’s research spans a range of observational, numerical and theoretical topics both Galactic and extra-Galactic. We are a diverse and friendly group and welcome any and all candidates with an interest in exoplanets.

These are both STFC positions fully-funded on the Bristol astrophysics consolidated grant until March 2024. Both positions are open-ended contracts with the potential for renewal to be requested in subsequent grants. The starting salary will be in the range £33,797 to £42,792 per annum, with generous travel funding for national and international conferences. Relocation will be covered following university guidelines http://www.bristol.ac.uk/hr/resourcing/practicalguidance/appointment/relocation1.html
