The NASA Ames Research Center is seeking an experienced scientist within its Space Science and Astrobiology Division to become the Chief of its Astrophysics Branch. We are looking for an active researcher who will bring scientific leadership to Ames and help the branch align with NASA’s strategic goals and missions. The candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in one or more of the following fields; stellar astrophysics, exoplanets, observational astronomy, intergalactic and extragalactic systems, laboratory astrophysics, and instrumentation. Mastery of these subjects should be demonstrated by a high level of scientific success in community and with NASA related research, published papers, and community service. The position involves 50% supervisory duties serving as the head of >30 scientists, approximately 25% performing programmatic work enabling science and growth within the branch, and 25% personal research time.
