Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in research related to
circumgalactic media and experimental astrophysics in Prof. Chris Martin’s
Space Astrophysics Lab at Caltech. The group develops state-of-the-art astronomical systems and is involved in
ground and space-based projects. The group is seeking a qualified scientist to
participate in the design, implementation, commissioning, and use of
UV/Optical/NIR astronomical instrumentation. A record of success working in
a laboratory setting, experience with developing technology/instrumentation,
and/or experience managing projects in experimental astrophysics is
desired. Applicants with experience in observational spectroscopy and an
interest in instrumentation and project management will also be considered.

The applicant will have a leading role in one or more current group projects,
including:

- development of new UV detector systems
- leading a multi-international UV multiplexing spectrograph/high-altitude balloon experiment (FIREBALL-2)
- sub-systems development for an innovative integral field spectrograph (Keck Cosmic Reionization Mapper)
- detection of circumgalactic media in distant galaxies

The applicant is also expected to lead science programs to detect and map
the intergalactic medium using the balloon, Palomar, and Keck integral field
spectrographs. This will be a 1-year assignment renewable for up to 3 years,
subject to funding and progress.
