The Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral researcher position. The successful applicant will be in the research group of Dr Philipp Mösta, which is part of the GRAPPA center for astroparticle physics and will work in close collaboration with a world-leading team on the development of a beyond-ideal general-relativistic magnetohydrodynamics code to study binary neutron-star mergers and supernova explosions and explore the connections to nuclear and heavy-ion collision physics. This position is part of a larger NWO-funded programme and will involve involve close collaboration with gravitational wave researchers at UvA's Gravitation and Astroparticle Physics Institute GRAPPA, the University of Utrecht, and the National Institute for Subatomic Physics NIKHEF.
Requirements
You have completed a PhD in physics and/or astronomy before starting this position. You have good programming skills in Python and ideally C++. You have experience in collaborative software development and knowledge of standard software development practices such as version control, code review, continuous integration, and clear documentation. You can communicate well in English (written & oral).
Appointment
The appointment will be for an initial period of 1 year, with a possible extension of 2 more years upon satisfactory performance.
