Job Description

Applications are invited for one to two postdoctoral positions in the research group of Eddie Baron at the University of Oklahoma.  One of the positions will be to work on 3D radiation transfer in stars, focusing on abundance determinations. This work will use the generalized stellar atmosphere code PHOENIX/3D. The other position (depending on funding) is more general, it can be on radiative transfer and hydrodynamics studies in stars, extrasolar planets, and supernovae.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics. Experience with numerical radiative transfer, high performance computation, parallelization, MPI, OpenMP, domain decomposition, stellar modeling, stellar evolution, or supernovae is desirable. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, renewable to a total of 3 years contingent on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funds. A travel/research budget will be available to the successful applicant. The expected start date for the position is August 2017 or earlier.

To apply, send a cover letter, CV with bibliography, and statement of research interests (3 pages or less) as a single PDF file to [email protected] with the subject line "Postdoc position: Radiative Transfer". Three letters of recommendation should be sent directly to [email protected] with the subject line "Letter of Recommendation for _Applicant Name_; Postdoc position: Radiative Transfer" Applications received by April 14, 2017 will receive full consideration, but applications will be accepted until the position(s) are filled.
