KAVLI INSTITUTE FOR ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS & DEPARTMENT OF ASTRONOMY, PEKING UNIVERSITY
Peking University invites applications for two faculty positions at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) and two faculty positions at the Department of Astronomy (DoA), starting on September 1, 2018. Faculty recruitment is open to qualified applicants in any area of astronomy and astrophysics, including (1) observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, (2) exoplanets, star formation, and stellar populations, (3) high-energy and gravitational physics, (4) particle astrophysics, and (5) computational astrophysics.
DoA and KIAA are working closely together to build an international center of excellence that is engaged in national and international theoretical and observational initiatives, development and use of facilities, and student training at one of the top universities in China. These initiatives are pursued in partnerships with other Kavli institutes and a network of domestic and international astronomy centers.
The KIAA and DoA have about 25 faculty, 30 postdoctoral fellows, 60 graduate students, 120 undergraduates, and many visiting scholars. We have priority access to a wide range of domestic and international telescopes and to domestic supercomputing facilities. The DoA was formally established within the School of Physics in 2000. The KIAA was launched in 2006, with English as the working language. Located on the historic grounds of PKU, we regularly sponsor thematic workshops and conferences to provide a platform for national and international scientific exchanges.
