Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Turku. The postdoc is expected to do independent research work in the field of high-energy astrophysics, in particular, on physics of accreting neutron stars and X-ray polarimetry, and to participate in teaching of the basic- and advanced-level courses in both astronomy and physics as well as to supervise undergraduate and graduate students. The high-energy astrophysics group is heavily involved in the X-ray polarimetry mission IXPE.
Candidates applying for the position should have a PhD in physics or astronomy or a related field and a proven record of scientific research in high-energy astrophysics. Experience with accretion disc physics, general relativity, polarimetry, X-ray data analysis, MHD, radiation hydrodynamics, particle-in-cell and Monte-Carlo methods as well as teaching experience will be considered as a plus.
The employment starts as early as September 1, 2021 or some later date to be agreed upon. The salary for this particular post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary shall be determined when drawing up the employment contract. Depending on experience, the gross salary is within 3300 – 4000 euro per month.
