Job Announcement Text:

Seeking applications for a postdoctoral position in extragalactic astrophysics, to support, plan, and conduct original research while working with Prof. Anne Medling and group at the University of Toledo on activities related to black hole growth.

One goal of this position is to use existing and planned high resolution observational data to test precise theoretical predictions for black hole accretion rates in nearby AGN.  The successful candidate will ideally have familiarity with or interest in one or more of the following areas: integral field spectroscopy, near-infrared spectroscopy, molecular gas observations and interferometry, dynamical modeling, and/or hydrodynamical simulations.  This position includes some freedom to pursue additional projects of the candidate’s choice within the areas of black hole fueling and feedback and galaxy evolution in general.

The University of Toledo astronomy group is a stimulating and collegial research environment, with 8 research-active faculty, several postdocs, 20+ graduate students, and plenty of undergraduate researchers.  The successful candidate will be involved in mentoring research with one or more students within the Medling group, and will have options to get involved with more teaching and/or outreach activities if they choose.

Applicants must have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a related field before the start date, which should be around or before Fall 2024.  As is standard for the university, the appointment will be initially for one year, with annual renewal up to three years upon satisfactory performance.

A complete application includes:
— cover letter
— CV and publication list
— two-page statement of research experience and interests
sent by email to [email protected] by Jan 15.

Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address by the same date.  To be considered, all applicants must also submit applications through the formal university job posting on PageUp: https://careersmanager.pageuppeople.com/1086/ci/en-us/job/496485/post-do...

We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, especially those from underrepresented groups.
