The Dept of Physics and Astronomy at UC Irvine invites applications for 1-2 postdoc positions to work with Dr. Vivian U (http://sites.uci.edu/vivianu). The successful candidate(s) will be expected to lead projects related to Dr. U's Keck and JWST programs targeting nearby IR galaxies. In addition, the candidate(s) will have input in the direction of ongoing projects within the group, and may explore projects that broadly fit within the topics of supermassive black holes, infrared or active galaxies, and galaxy mergers. Preference may be given to those with prior optical/infrared IFU and/or spectroscopy experience, but all exceptional candidates will be considered.
The successful applicants will have access to world class telescopes through the UC Observatories. The Department is committed to a culture of inclusivity, and the successful candidates will share this vision. We strongly encourage academically and culturally diverse scholars to apply.
The position(s) will start between Spring and Fall of 2022 and will initially be for two years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory annual progress evaluations. The successful applicant should hold a PhD in astronomy, physics, or a related discipline by the start date of the appointment.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV (with publication list), research statement, and three references to UCI's online application system at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07063. Letters of references will be requested through the online system and should be received by the application deadline.
Applications received by November 19, 2021 will receive full consideration; late applications will be accepted until the position is filled. General inquiries about this position may be directed to [email protected].
