Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Tel Aviv University Department of Astrophysics to work with Dr. Iair Arcavi. The position is for observational research of astronomical transients including supernovae, electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave sources, tidal disruption events and other transients in galaxy centers, and new and peculiar types of events. The successful applicant will be encouraged to pursue their independent research path and PI observing proposals at facilities around the world.
The group has access to the Las Cumbres Observatory global telescope network, the Wise Observatory telescopes, the new BlackGEM survey (with guaranteed preferred access to tidal disruption science), LSST, and the consortium developing the new SoXS instrument for the 3.6-meter New Technology Telescope in Chile. The group also fosters close connections with leading observing and theory groups at Israeli institutions and around the world through various European and US collaborations including ePESSTO and the Global Supernova Project.
Applicants should have a PhD in astrophysics and experience with observational astronomy. The appointment is for an initial period of two years, starting no later than Fall 2019, with a possible extension for a third year.
Applicants should email a CV, publication list, a brief (<~3 page) description of research accomplishments and interests, and arrange for three reference letters to be sent to Mrs. Daniella Gabrielovitch ([email protected]).
Applications will be accepted until December 31st, 2018.
