Job Description

PROGRAM MANAGER, EVENT HORIZON TELESCOPE, SMITHSONIAN
ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is the project that produced the first-ever image of a black hole, announced worldwide in 2019. The EHT images emission from supermassive black holes at unprecedented resolution, directly testing Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Our team includes engineers, theoreticians, software developers, astronomers, and imaging algorithm experts. Our goal is to refine our breakthrough techniques, and advance to making real-time movies of black holes by the end of this decade. This position will provide professional program management for our broad portfolio of activities applying and developing game-changing advances in very-long-baseline-interferometry (VLBI) astrophysical instrumentation. The Program Manager will provide leadership in deployment and tracking of resources, communication and coordination with sponsors and partners, organizational development, and operational effectiveness.
