The Astrophysics Division at the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Warsaw is seeking applicants for three PhD positions in areas related to: type Ia supernovae, statistical analysis of galaxy properties and machine learning techniques for big cosmological surveys. The positions are open to candidates from all countries. The successful candidates are expected to start their research in February 2020.
Requirements: Applicants should have, or be about to obtain, a M.Sc. degree or equivalent in physics, astronomy or a related subject, a good command of the English language and very good knowledge of at least one programming language (such as Python, C, C++, Fortran 2003/2008 or similar) and the UNIX/LINUX environment. The scholarship is for four years. The initial stipend, in accordance with the state regulations, amounts to PLN 2600 gross per month (not subject to income tax) and a subject to increase following a positive evaluation after 2 years of study. During the studies there are possibilities to apply for additional external funding.
