Research Fellow in Cosmological Galaxy Formation
Job Summary
Job Description
We invite applications to join Andrew Pontzen's GMGalaxies team as a postdoctoral research fellow.
The Astrophysics Group at UCL is heavily involved in cosmological and extragalactic research, which ranges across observational, theoretical and computational topics. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who will work on computational simulations of galaxy formation. The post-holder will be based in the Cosmoparticle Hub in the Kathleen Lonsdale Building (www.ucl.ac.uk/cosmoparticle).
The post-holder will perform and/or analyse numerical simulations of galaxy formation, with particular reference to observational constraints and/or dynamical models.
This post is funded by the ERC for 3 years in the first instance.
Key requirements:
-
To hold or be about to obtain a post-graduate degree in a relevant subject area: astronomy, physics, statistics or related fields. Appointment at Grade 7 (£35,965 - £43,470 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (£31,479-£33,194 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
-
To have an established track record of performing or analysing numerical simulations of galaxy or structure formation.
-
To have a broad understanding of relevant developments in observational and theoretical galaxy formation.
