Job Description

Samuel P. Langley Postdoctoral Fellow

The Pittsburgh Particle physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology Center (PITT PACC), in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow in astrophysics, cosmology, or the interface between particle physics and astrophysics. Up to two fellowships will be awarded. Special consideration will be given to candidates with interest and expertise in cosmology theory, the physics of dark matter, and/or astrophysical survey data analysis and interpretation OR computational astrophysics with a focus on galaxy evolution, the ISM, CGM, or outflows. The fellowship will begin in fall of 2023. The appointment will initially be for two years with the expectation of extension to a third year, and possibly beyond, contingent upon performance. Langley Fellows receive generous salary and research funds.

PITT PACC is a vibrant community of scientists that conduct theoretical, experimental, and observational research in particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. In addition to performing independent research, Langley Fellows have the opportunity to organize PITT PACC academic activities. These include hosting long-term visitors and holding PITT PACC workshops and/or conferences of their own design. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely allied field and exceptional research credentials. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and research statement through Academic Jobs Online (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/23008) and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted through AJO. Please indicate general area of interest in the cover letter. Review of applications will begin on 7 January 2023, though we may continue to consider applications received after this date. Inquiries should be directed to Professor Evan Schneider ([email protected]), Professor Andrew Zentner ([email protected]), or PITT PACC Administrator Joni George ([email protected]).
