Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO), known as the“Cradle of Modern Astronomy in China”, is currently expanding its research prorgam in radio astronomy and cosmology. We are seeking one or two new faculty members in these areas who have strong research track record and international impact. Candidates who have skills and experience in data analysis of radio astronomy and cosmology will be given preference.

Research fields in PMO include radio astronomy, dark matter experimental searches, galaxy evolution and cosmology, high-energy astrophysics, and sub-mm astronomy. PMO has launched the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), a space telescope for the detection of high-energy gamma rays and electrons, to aid in the search for dark matter. PMO also leads China's astronomical development in Dome A of Antarctic, and is now deeply involved in the national mega science project "Chinese Antarctic Observatory at Kunlun Station". Current activities include the operation of the second 0.5-meter Antarctic Survey Telescopes (AST3-2) at Dome A to search for supernovae, exoplanet and EM counterpart of gravitational waves. Members of the institute are also actively involved in other international and domestic projects such as SDSS-IV, FAST, and SKA. PMO is also hosting the Australia-China Consortium for Astrophysical Research, and provides an excellent platform for national and international scientific exchanges. Recently PMO and University of Science and Technology of China, are working closely together to build a School of Astronomy and Space Science in Nanjing under the strategical plan on the integration of education and research. In addition, its geographical vicinity with Nanjing University (NJU) makes it keep close academic cooperation with School of Astronomy and Space Science of NJU.

The Observatory is current a mixture of Chinese and international researchers, including 328 faculty members, 15 postdocs, and 89 PhD students. English is a working language at PMO. Description of individual research programs can be found at http://english.pmo.cas.cn.
