Job Description

Applications are invited for post-doctoral positions in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing (CPAC) Group at Argonne National Laboratory.

Selected applicants may be sponsored for Mayer/Fermi Fellowships (https://www.anl.gov/careers/apply-job/argonne-fellowships); candidates with a strong computational background will also be considered for Exascale Computing Project (ECP) and SciDAC fellowships.

Research within CPAC covers theory, modeling, and observations targeted at dark energy, dark matter, primordial fluctuations, inflation, and neutrinos. Theory, modeling, and analysis efforts emphasize multi-wavelength survey science, cluster cosmology, and large-scale cosmological simulations. The observational effort focuses on participation in optical sky surveys (DES, DESI, LSST), CMB observations (SPT), and cross-correlations between the two.

Staff members include Lindsey Bleem, Salman Habib, Andrew Hearin, Katrin Heitmann, and Eve Kovacs. Current postdocs are Sebastian Bocquet, Jonas Chaves-Montero, JD Emberson, Patricia Larsen, and Vinu Vikraman; the effort includes a number of graduate and undergraduate students.

CPAC maintains strong collaborations with applied mathematicians, computer scientists, and statisticians; access to world-leading supercomputing resources will be available. Interactions with experimentalists at Argonne and research groups at Fermilab, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University are highly encouraged.

Applicants should send 1) a CV, 2) a brief statement of research interests, and 3) arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to [email protected] as soon as possible. Non-email correspondence should be sent to Salman Habib, HEP Division, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 South Cass Avenue, Bldg. 360, Argonne, IL 60439, USA.

A Ph.D. is required but must not have been obtained prior to 2015.
