Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Stellar Dynamics at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is seeking candidates for a 2+1 year post-doctoral position in the field of stellar dynamics.
The successful candidate will be involved in the ANR project SEGAL ("Secular Evolution of Galaxies" -- http://www.secular-evolution.org), focusing on the long-term evolution of stellar systems. We expect the candidate to work on the development and application of kinetic and semi-analytical methods in the context of the long-term evolution of self-gravitating systems. This work will be carried out in close collaboration with C. Pichon (IAP), J.-B. Fouvry (IAP), as well as P.-H. Chavanis (Univ. Toulouse). The applicant will also benefit from the broader framework of the SEGAL collaboration involving ~30 experts. Besides these projects, independent research and leadership will be encouraged.
Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from candidates with strong expertise in theoretical physics; solid skills in numerical methods and computer programming are also a must.
The appointment is for 2+1 years (up to satisfactory performance) with salary depending on experience and including French social security benefits. Additional funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works and statement of research interests (max. 4 pages) into a single pdf file through the link: https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7095-CHRPIC-001/Default.aspx?lang=EN. Two to three recommendation letters should be sent directly to [email protected]. For full consideration, materials must be received before January 11th, 2021.
