Postdoctoral Researcher in Observations and Modelling of Supernovae

Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the time domain astrophysics group at the Astrophysics Research Institute, Liverpool John Moores University, working specifically on Supernovae.

The successful applicant will work on modelling of SN data, especially Core-Collapse SNe, working closely with P.A. Mazzali and B.Davies. It is also envisaged that the successful candidate will play an important role in the group's various observational programmes, using the Liverpool Telescope and other instruments.

A PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field is required. We seek candidates with experience with modelling of SN and/or Stellar Atmospheres and associated physics. Experience with optical observations of transient sources is desirable. Willingness to work on both modelling and observations is required.

The position is guaranteed for a minimum of three years in the first instance, with a possibility of extension subject to funding. The position is available from April 1st 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
