The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for several postdoctoral positions to start October 2018. The astronomy group at the University of Waterloo consists of 15 research-active faculty members, and is currently expanding due to major new investment. As part of this, it is likely that a new centre for astronomy and cosmology will soon be formed within the University. Research is undertaken in several areas including cosmology, large-scale structure, CMB, gravitational lensing, black holes, galaxies, clusters, quasars and sub-mm astronomy, with interests in a number of future experiments including Euclid, CCAT, CFIS, and LSST (https://uwaterloo.ca/astrophysics-and-gravitation). The group has a close connection to the Perimeter Institute (https://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/), which is located just a short walk away.
As part of the expansion of astronomy at the University of Waterloo, we are looking to hire postdoctoral fellows and postdoctoral researchers. We welcome applications for fellowship positions from excellent candidates in any field of astronomy and cosmology that would enhance the research program of the department. Fellows would be expected to undertake a program of original research either independently or in collaboration with others in the group.
In addition, we are looking to hire one or more postdoctoral research assistants to work on topics in observational cosmology and large-scale structure, and are keen to hear from candidates who are involved in, or desire to work with data from experiments including DES, eBOSS, DESI, Euclid, and LSST. Appropriate candidates are welcome to send in a single application for both research fellow and research assistant positions. The positions will be held initially for two years, extendable to three years upon mutual agreement.
Candidates should submit electronically a curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement of proposed research, and ask three referees to send letters of recommendation before the closing date of December 1, 2017 via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Informal inquiries about these positions can be made to Will Percival (email@example.com).
The University of Waterloo respects, appreciates and encourages diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities.
