Job Description

Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions at the Tel Aviv University Department of Astrophysics to work with Dr. Jonathan Stern. The positions are for theoretical research in the fields of galaxy formation and/or AGN, including but not limited to intergalactic, circumgalactic and interstellar media, quasar and stellar feedback, galaxy morphology and chemodynamics, accretion disks, and BLR / NLR physics. The successful applicants will be encouraged to pursue research within the FIRE simulations collaboration, to develop their own independent research path, and to foster new collaborations within the Department of Astrophysics and beyond.

Candidates with experience in any of the areas of ISM/CGM/IGM theory, dynamics, radiative transfer, hydrodynamic simulations, AGN-related physics, galaxy evolution and cosmology, are encouraged to apply.  The initial appointments are for a minimum of 2 years, starting Fall 2023 or earlier, with a potential extension for a third year. Ample support is available for computing, travel, publications, and other research-related needs. The research is supported by a grant from the Israel Science Foundation and by the resources of the FIRE collaboration.

Tel Aviv University is located in the northern part of Tel Aviv - a vibrant, liberal, cultural city on the shore of the Mediterranean. The Department of Astrophysics is welcoming a growing number of postdocs, and has close ties to other astrophysics departments in Israel and around the world.

Applicants should email a full CV, including a list of publications, a brief (<~3 pages) description of research accomplishments and interests, and arrange for three reference letters to be sent to [email protected] . Full attention will be given to applications received by December 31, 2022.
