HAWAI‘I SUPERNOVA FLOWS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP – ID# 19673.
Applications are invited in connection with a postdoctoral position at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawai‘i in Honolulu, to work with Ben Shappee (firstname.lastname@example.org), John Tonry (email@example.com), and Brent Tully (firstname.lastname@example.org) on the Hawai‘i Supernova Flows program to determine distances to Type Ia supernovae and map the velocity field of the universe to a redshift corresponding to z=0.1. The selected candidate is expected to be involved at all levels in the program including: (a) daily evaluation of candidate Supernova Type Ia (SNIa) events coming from Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) and other facilities, (b) the initiation of follow-up infrared photometry and spectroscopy, primarily with the 3.8-meter United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) and University of Hawai‘i (UH) 2.2-meter telescope respectively, (c) contributes to development and improvement to the chain of procedures, from observations through post-observation reductions and analysis of data products, (d) maintains data base of the accumulating information, (e) participates in the scientific evaluation of the resultant products and collaboration in publications. The successful candidate will have opportunity to apply for observing time on all Maunakea telescopes.
The appointment is Non-Regular, Full-Time, Limited Term (up to three (3) years in duration). Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. The start date is flexible and can be anytime in 2020. The annual salary will be approximately $68,500 per year and will include funding support for research activities.
