Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Astrophysics of Star Formation at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in computational astrophysics of star formation at Lawrence Livermore National laboratory.

The position can begin Sept. 2018 or earlier for an initial period of two years with possible extension for a third year. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or physics and must have experience in computational astrophysical fluid dynamics, preferably including MHD and radiation transfer. Experience in computational star formation is desirable. Salary will be commensurate with experience within the salary range.

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct code development and a broad research program in star formation studies using a state-of-the-art adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) radiation-MHD code with Richard Klein (LLNL/Berkeley) and Chris McKee (Berkeley). The research program will focus on multi-scale, multi-physics simulations of the formation of super star clusters and Orion-scale clusters under the influence of stellar feedback. The postdoctoral fellow will also study the formation of individual stars, both low mass and high mass

Access to substantial computing resources at LLNL and national supercomputer centers supporting this research will be made available. The selected candidate must be eligible to obtain a DOE Q-clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hire.

In addition to formally submitting a resume online to apply for this position at

http://apptrkr.com/1116334 and search by Postdoctoral Research positions within the WCI Directorate at LLNL, applicants must send a curriculum vitae, bibliography, and a statement of their research interests to Louann Arredondo at [email protected] by March 31, 2018.
