Job Description

The School of Physics & Astronomy at Monash University is currently working on an exciting research program aimed at determining the origin of the heavy elements in the Galaxy. We are seeking to appoint an Australian Research Council funded Research Fellow for 2.5 years to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in theoretical stellar and/or galactic astrophysics and experience with the tools needed for the study of theoretical stellar and/or galactic astrophysics questions.

The Research Fellow will conduct research on theoretical topics related to the origin of the elements and chemical evolution, which could include the slow and rapid neutron-capture process, sources of the r-process including neutron star mergers, simulations of Galactic chemical evolution including chemo-dynamical models, and the formation and origin of the Milky Way Galaxy.  

The position is based at the main campus of Monash University which hosts approximately 56,000 equivalent full-time students spread across its Australian and off-shore campuses, and approximately 3500 academic staff. Monash is committed to growing its already established excellence in astrophysics. The successful applicant will work with world experts on stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis, including Dr. Amanda Karakas and Prof. John Lattanzio. The immediate supervisor will be Dr. Amanda Karakas.

Salary will be in the range AUD89,227 to AUD95,780 (Level A), which includes a 9.5% contribution to superannuation from the University. There will be annual salary increments for acceptable performance.
