Applications are invited for Post Doctoral Fellowship at the Max Planck Partner Group in Galactic Star Formation in the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), working in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR), Bonn. The candidate will work with Dr. Jagadheep D. Pandian on data from the GLOSTAR survey, a blind survey of the Galactic Plane in the 4-8 GHz band with the JVLA. The selected candidate will utilize survey data (broad band continuum in addition to spectral lines of formaldehyde, 6.7 GHz methanol maser, and radio recombination lines) to carry out research on high-mass star formation. Complementarity data taking and analysis with the GMRT using the new uGMRT system will be required. The candidate will have the opportunity to spend extended periods at MPIfR.
The initial duration of the fellowship will be 1 year which is extendable to another year. The position is available on a immediate basis. The salary is as per the standard of all postdoctoral positions at IIST (Rs. 40,000 per month with additional house rental allowance). Medical benefits are included.
Candidates are invited to submit their application to email@example.com as a single pdf file including a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a summary of past research and a research proposal (maximum 5 pages for research component). Candidates should also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Review of applications will commence on Feb. 1, 2019 but applications will continue to be considered until the position is filled.
The candidate should be an Indian citizen and should have obtained a Ph.D in astronomy/atrophysics within 5 years of the start date. Prior experience in radio interferometry data analysis is an advantage.
