Job Description

Department of Physics and Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston invites applications for an instructor position to begin in fall 2018. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field and have a passion for teaching undergraduate astronomy and physics courses at all levels. The teaching load is 12 contact hours per week, through a combination of lectures and labs. Factors such as outreach experience (K-12 and public), hands-on astronomical observation skills, prior undergraduate teaching experience and post-doctoral experience are desirable. This position is non-tenure track, but eligible for review in the sixth year for potential promotion to Senior Instructor, and if successful, eligible for review for renewal every seventh year.

The College of Charleston is a public liberal arts and sciences college with approximately 10,000 undergraduates and 1,500 graduate students. The department currently has 17 faculty members and offers degrees in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, and meteorology.
