Job Description

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in observational stellar astronomy. The successful candidate will work with the stellar astrophysics group at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and collaborators at Florida Gulf Coast University on an investigation of the empirical rotation vs. age relation among wide noninteracting late type main sequence binary stars, using data from NASA’s Kepler, K2 and TESS missions. The primary responsibility of the position will be to assist our comparisons of competing “gyrochronology” models to the available observational data. Other duties may include managing the software pipeline for light curve analysis, acquisition and reduction of new photometric and/or spectroscopic observations, and the publication and presentation of results. Experience with Python, astrostatistics and/or mining NASA and ESA data archives would be a plus.

A Ph.D. in astronomy or astrophysics is required by the date of employment. The term of employment is initially for one year. It may be renewable for up to three years, depending upon performance and the availability of funding.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the Department’s graduate and/or undergraduate teaching and outreach activities. They will also have access to the SARA telescopes at Kitt Peak, Cerro Tololo and La Palma (www.saraobservatory.org) as well as the 1‑m telescope on the ERAU campus (https://daytonabeach.erau.edu/about/labs/telescope).
