Postdoctoral Research Associate - Radio Astronomy

About the opportunity
A new position has become available at Level A in the School of Physics. In this position you will carry out research in radio astronomy with a focus on conducting a survey for radio transients and variability with the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope.
You will be involved in all aspects of this survey, from survey design, data reduction and analysis through to scientific analysis in an area of radio transients that interests them (areas include, but are not limited to radio supernova, GRBs, ultracool dwarf stars, AGN variability or ISM propagation effects).
Specific activities include:
• Designing and implementing ASKAP transients surveys;
• Reducing and analysing data from ASKAP Early Science observations;
• Writing software to do this analysis efficiently on large datasets;
• Contributing to the supervision of undergraduate research students;
• Publishing scientific results from these surveys.
About you
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with:
• A PhD in astrophysics, or closely-related discipline;
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research activities either independently or as part of a team;
• A high level of self-motivation and independence;
• Understanding of radio astronomy observations and data analysis;
• Software development skills for working with large datasets;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits
Full-time, fixed term for 2 years with further offers possible; remuneration package: $106K-$114K, which includes leave loading and up to 17% superannuation.
