OSU THETA Bourgogne Franche-Comté and Institut UTINAM are opening a post-doctoral position for 2 years in Besançon, to work on the exploitation of Gaia data.
The selected fellow will participate in the interpretation of Gaia first and second releases, in relation with Galactic archeology, Galactic dynamics, and evolution, in collaboration with the local team. The Besançon observatory has a long experience in forward modeling of the Galaxy. The candidates wishing to use this approach, or proposing alternative methods are welcome.
The interpretation of Gaia data can be enhanced using complementary data, from ground based spectroscopic surveys, or asteroseismic data sets. Any experience of the proponent with these aspects of Galactic archeology studies will be appreciated.
Applicants must own a Ph.D in astronomy or physics and must have demonstrated the ability to conduct fully independent research. Candidates are invited to submit their CV, motivation letter, and project, as well as recommendation letters to [email protected] before February 15th, 2018.
