USRA is accepting applications for the positions of User Support and Science Outreach Lead with the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). We are seeking an active astronomer with documented experience in user support and scientific outreach, to support the SOFIA guest investigator community and communicate with the community and sponsoring organizations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a core group of scientists and support staff, complemented with matrixed-in support from the full SOFIA science staff, in defining and implementing the SOFIA User Support and Science Outreach. In addition to direct user support, including help-desk, web site, and user documentation management, the successful candidate will, with SOFIA senior management, define and organize SOFIA’s presence at conferences and workshops (including the AAS, DPS and AGU), as well as lead or substantially participate in the organization of SOFIA lead conferences, workshops and events aimed at the research community.
Candidates should have a strong interest in SOFIA and be actively pursuing research broadly related to SOFIA science. SOFIA Scientists will have up to 20% of their time available for personal research. These positions are stationed at NASA Ames Research Center Moffett Field, CA, and will be expected to spend some time at the SOFIA Operations Center in Palmdale, and possibly the southern operations base in New Zealand.
