Job Description

The Department of Physics (https://sciences.ucf.edu/physics/) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure-earning instructor position, anticipated to start in August 2021. This position is renewable annually, with the possibility of a summer teaching assignment.

We seek candidates to teach large-enrollment sections of introductory physics courses for a variety of majors and to coordinate both introductory laboratory sections of those courses and the Department’s Learning Assistant Program. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching. The person who fills this position will be expected to teach one to two courses per semester in the Fall and Spring terms, depending on the level of assigned service.

The Department of Physics has 52 full-time faculty members, offers B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and is housed in a state-of-the-art research building. UCF is a leading metropolitan university designated at the highest level of research activity, with a diverse student body of over 70,000 students. UCF has also been recently designated a Hispanic Serving Institution by the Department of Education. We offer paid parental leave for both parents and professional development and leadership training for faculty at all career stages. There is a career path for instructors and the possibility of promotion based on years of service and performance.

Applicants must have an M.S. degree in physics or in a closely related discipline from an accredited institution and previous teaching experience at the university level. Additionally, we are especially interested in an individual with experience in lower-level physics laboratory instruction and in physics pedagogy development and training.

As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, UCF encourages all qualified applicants to apply, including women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of traditionally underrepresented populations. As a Florida public university, UCF makes all application materials and selection procedures available to the public upon request.

UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted electronically through the Human Resources website www.ucf.edu/jobs. In addition to the online application, interested candidates should upload: (1) a cover letter including the names, affiliations, and email addresses of at least three references; (2) a curriculum vitae; and (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, training, and relevant experience to the position.

Review of applications will begin on March 1, 2021. Applications and supporting documents must be received by April 23, 2021.
