FONDECYT postdoctoral fellowships at Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso
Job Summary
Job Description
The Physics Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is looking to sponsor applicants for the FONDECYT Postdoctoral Fellowship program. The fellowships, which run for 3 years with a starting date early to mid-2020, are funded by the Chilean agency CONICYT.
Astronomy is a young and rapidly expanding addition to the Sciences faculty of the PUCV, focusing on extragalactic astrophysics, large-scale structure, and the high redshift universe. We are looking to expand and seek motivated researchers working in these fields and/or observational cosmology to help develop astrophysics at PUCV. Successful applicants have the option to work in projects at international collaborations where faculty members of the PUCV are involved: SDSS-IV/MaNGA, SDSS-V, LSST, CLASH-VLT, CRAFT. Successful applicants will have access to the time guaranteed to Chilean institutions on all observing facilities based in the country (including VLT, ALMA, Gemini-South, Magellan, APEX, SOAR, ASTE, La Silla, CTIO, etc.) as well as the university's computing cluster. The Instituto de Física is based on the Curauma campus of PUCV, just east of Valparaíso and ~1h drive from Santiago. PUCV is an equal-opportunity employer and offers generous incentives for research.
Interested applicants should send the following documents to [email protected] by July 16 2019:
- curriculum vitae with list of publications
- research statement (max. 3 pages)
- one-page cover letter indicating: (a) PhD award (or expected) date; (b) name of possible faculty sponsor at PUCV; (c) contact information of 3 professional references
The selected candidate(s) will then be sponsored by a PUCV faculty member and work with them to complete the application process. Please note that this is a two-step process, with selection by PUCV not guaranteeing selection by FONDECYT. We encourage interested applicants to get in touch with María Argudo-Fernández ([email protected]), Raphaël Gobat ([email protected]), Nicolas Tejos ([email protected]), and/or Jorge Noreña ([email protected]) for further information.
Compensation and Benefits
From FONDECYT: costs of relocation to Chile, health benefits, travel stipend.
