Astrophysicist (Post-doctoral Research Fellow)
Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory is part of what is arguably the largest and most diverse astrophysical institution in the world, where the staff carries out a broad program of research in astronomy, astrophysics and earth and space sciences.
Applications are now being accepted for a postdoctoral research fellowship position at SAO; the starting date is flexible and could be early in 2021 if SAO requirements are met. The research, in close collaboration with Dr. Paul J. Green, will focus on the multi wavelength and spectroscopic properties of quasars, and their time variability. In particular, this collaborative research will emphasize X-ray and optical studies of changing look quasars, along with characterization of spectroscopic variability in large samples of quasars with SDSS spectroscopy. Familiarity with the properties and physics of active galactic nuclei, along with facility using and adapting astronomical software such as Python to such purposes will be considered an asset.
