Post-Doctoral Position at the Dynamics Group

Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Garching

Applications for a post-doctoral position are invited to work with Ortwin Gerhard and the Dynamics Group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE). Our research focusses on the dynamical structure and evolution of galaxies, their nuclei and dark matter halos, and on the chemo-dynamical build-up of the Milky Way based onfront-line survey data.

We are looking for an ambitious and highly qualified person with interest and expertise in any of these subjects and in computational research.

Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy or related field before starting. The appointment is initially for 2 years, with possible extension, starting from summer or fall 2018.

Salary and social benefits are based on the German TVOeD scale, depending on experience.

We offer an attractive working environment, computing resources, and money for travel.

The MPE is one of the major German astrophysics research institutes with broad research interests ranging from instrumentation to theory. It is part of an international research center situated in Garching near Munich, on a campus shared with the MPI for Astrophysics, ESO, and several other institutes and university departments. Munich is an attractive international city close to the Bavarian Alps. For further details about MPE see http://www.mpe.mpg.de.

Please send a letter of application with proposed starting date, a brief description of research interests, CV including publication list, and arrange for three letters of reference, by November 30, 2017 to dynamicsjobs@mpe.mpg.de.

For scientific enquiries about the position please contact Ortwin Gerhard at MPE.

The Max-Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
