Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Dartmouth College to work with Prof. Mutlu-Pakdil and collaborators on the general topics of nearby galaxies, dwarf galaxies, and resolved stellar populations. The successful applicant will be expected to lead large ongoing surveys primarily focused on photometric studies of nearby dwarf galaxies and their stellar halos, as well as plan and perform new observations. The successful applicant will be able to participate in DES, DELVE, MADCASH, and LSST. The astronomy group at Dartmouth (currently consisting of 6 faculty, 1 post-doc, and approximately 10 graduate students) has a 10% share in the 10m Southern Large Telescope and a 25% share of MDM observatory, which has a 2.4m and a 1.3m telescope. The successful applicant can apply for time on these telescopes as a PI.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics or Astronomy. Research experience in observational studies of galaxies in the nearby universe is desirable; experience in working with large-survey data is a plus. The position includes funds for travel, publications, and computing, and offers a competitive salary with health benefits.
Applicants should submit: (1) a cover letter, (2) a research statement (max 3 pages), and (3) a CV that includes a publication list as a single PDF under the heading “Dartmouth postdoc-Lastname_firstname”. This single PDF and 3 letters of reference should be sent to Prof. Mutlu-Pakdil at [email protected] by February 1st, 2023. For more information, please contact Prof. Mutlu-Pakdil.
