Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Prof. Chiara Mingarelli’s research group at the University of Connecticut for up to two years and the potential to work at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) in the third year. The successful candidate will work closely with the group on research topics related to Pulsar Timing Arrays, including but not limited to nanohertz gravitational-wave (GW) astrophysics, data analysis, and interpreting cosmological simulations in terms of Pulsar Timing Array observables.
The growing UConn astrophysics group has a vibrant and collegial atmosphere with research on star formation and the interstellar medium, and computational galaxy formation in addition to Pulsar Timing Array science. The successful candidate will also benefit from frequent interactions with colleagues at the CCA, and the potential to spend their third year in New York at the CCA as a Flatiron Research Fellow. A description of the CCA research groups and their members can be found here.
Appointment Terms: The desired start date is August 28, 2020 (with flexibility). The initial appointment at UConn is for one year, renewable for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funds. The third year has the potential to be based at the CCA in New York City as a Flatiron Research Fellow.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in astrophysics or a closely-related field by the start date.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a solid research portfolio, strong coding and analysis skills, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to promoting an inclusive community in astrophysics as well as an interest and/or experience in working with pulsar timing array data.
To Apply: Please submit a CV, publication list, cover letter, and a max 3 page research statement to UConn Jobs http://hr.uconn.edu/jobs > Staff Positions > Search Staff Positions > Keyword Search Astrophysics (or ID 2020188). Please arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to Prof. Chiara Mingarelli ([email protected]). Evaluation of applications will begin December 2, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon the successful completion of a Pre-Employment Criminal Background Check (Search # 2020188).
