Job Announcement Text:

We invite applications for postdoctoral researchers in Extragalactic Astrophysics: SU FV-4358-18.

The position is available from fall 2019, for 2+1 years. Earlier starting is negotiable. Closing date: 31 Jan 2019.

The position will concern observational extragalactic astronomy in the group of Associate Professor Matthew Hayes. We are searching for highly qualified scientists to exploit large data-sets obtained from the HST and ESO/VLT in recent cycles. We also have PI access to LSST. Scientific topics include the ISM/CGM of low-redshift starburst galaxies, and/or star formation histories of mid-to-high-redshift galaxies.

Applicants should have strong backgrounds in extragalactic astronomy, possibly including SED modeling techniques and nebular diagnostics; in-depth knowledge of statistical methods would be an advantage. Interested parties are encouraged to get in touch before of the deadline or meet face-to-face at the 2019 AAS in Seattle.

The applicant must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Astrophysics or a related field. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination, with equal opportunities. The department consists of 15 faculty staff, ~20 senior researchers and postdocs, and ~25 PhD students. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and has an international character – most researchers have an international background and English is commonly used both at the department and in daily life.

To apply for this position, please use the Stockholm University web-based application form in English. The application should comprise, in PDF format: a cover letter (1 page), CV, and statement of relevant scientific expertise/proposed project (max 3 pages). The applicant should ensure that three reference letters are submitted by email to fv-4358-18.refletters@astro.su.se by the closing date.

Included Benefits:

The positions are salaried immediately and include full Swedish social benefits: e.g. medical insurance and parental leave.
