Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northern Arizona University is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to work on one or more of the following topics in Solar System small body science: (1) Big data and LSST; (2) orbital dynamics of small Solar System bodies; (3) telescope instrumentation; and/or (4) observational spectroscopy. The  successful applicant will work in Professor David Trilling's research group on one (or more) of these projects. The successful applicant is expected to write peer-reviewed research papers and, as appropriate, external funding proposals. The successful applicant may also participate in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Minimum qualifications are an earned PhD or other doctoral-level research degree in the field of physics, astronomy, planetary science, or an appropriately related field, conferred no earlier than August 31, 2013, from an accredited research institution. Preferred qualifications include knowledge and experience with "big data" astronomical approaches that can be applied to LSST; and/or experience with orbital dynamics/orbital mechanics, particularly as applied to Solar System science; and/or experience with developing and constructing telescope instrumentation; and/or experience with observational  spectroscopy, particularly as applied to Solar System science. Preferred qualifications also include experience with proposal writing and experience with software approaches to astronomical research.
