Job Announcement Text:

UCL invites applications for a lectureship in theoretical and/or observational Astrophysics. We particularly encourage applications from those with research interests in the area of Galactic and/or Extragalactic Astrophysics, including e.g. star formation, stellar evolution and archeology, supernovae, formation and evolution of galaxies. The lecturer will be part of the Astrophysics group and is expected to have an excellent record of academic research. The lectureship is aimed at strengthening our stellar, galactic and extragalactic research portfolio. The post holder will be expected to be undertaking world-class research in topic(s) within this area.

The lecturer will be expected to raise funds from other external sources to provide support for their research, postdoctoral research staff and PhD students, including through the Group’s STFC Consolidated Grant where appropriate. Proven ability to raise funds for one's own research (e.g. through a personal fellowship) would be an advantage.

The post-holder would be expected to commit to high quality teaching and to foster a positive learning environment for students. The successful applicant will commit to UCL’s policy of equal opportunity and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.

The Astrophysics Group is one of the largest in the UK, comprising about 130 members of academic, research and support staff, of which 24 are academic staff members. Our research areas cover massive stars, star formation and stellar evolution, interstellar and circumstellar processes, astrochemistry, cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, planetary science, extra-solar planets, atmospheric physics and instrumentation.

If you have any queries regarding the application process, please contact Lori Coletti Campbell, [email protected]. Informal enquiries regarding the vacancy can be made to the Head of the Astrophysics Group, Professor Giovanna Tinetti [email protected].
