Post Doctoral Fellow - Computational Astrophysics

Location: Clemson, SC
 

A postdoctoral position, with joint affiliations at Clemson University and Columbia University, is available in the area of computational astrophysics for a period of 2-3 years. The candidate will work with Prof. Jonathan Zrake at Clemson and Prof. Zoltan Haiman at Columbia as part of a collaboration that also includes Prof. Andrew MacFadyan at New York University.

The candidate will be based at Clemson University, and will spend several months each year in New York City, working with Zoltan Haiman at Columbia University and Andrew MacFadyen at NYU.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to work on topics relating to gravitational wave emission by supermassive black hole binaries, and the physics of gas accretion in these systems. He or she will also collaborate with Prof. Zrake in expanding the computational astrophysics group at Clemson. This may include mentoring graduate students and interacting with Clemson Physics and Astronomy faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD in physics, astronomy, or closely related field is required.

The candidate should have extensive knowledge of numerical methods for magnetohydrodynamics, and be proficient in high performance computing.
