CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science (CASS) is looking for an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Pulsar Group. The Fellow will take a leadership role in commissioning and first science with the Ultra-Wide Band feed (700 - 4000 MHz) on the Parkes radio telescope. Specifically, the Fellow will:
- Assist with the commissioning of the Ultra-Wide Band Receiver (UWB), in particular with aspects of the UWB’s polarization capabilities.
- Design and execute an observational programme, exploiting the characteristics of the UWB, aimed at understanding how pulsars work, their short and long timescale properties and their polarization properties over a wide bandwidth.
- Collaborate with the group of Dr Karastergiou at the University of Oxford and participate in the science drivers for the Square Kilometre Array and its precursors.
The Fellow will have demonstrated skills in observational pulsar astronomy, have skills in high-level programming languages and show willingness to commission new instrumentation and work as part of a team.
The Fellow will be based in Sydney, one of the most liveable cities in the world, within a lively research environment, as part of the CASS astrophysics group. The pulsar group has a strong international reputation in observational pulsar astronomy and members have an established network of national and international collaborators.
CASS postdocs have a generous travel allowance, and participation in overseas conferences and collaboration is seen as a vital part of the postdoc experience. CASS supports a flexible working environment and offers a range of family friendly programs and policies. We are committed to diversity, in particular to increasing awareness, demonstrating best practice, and implementing initiatives to improve diversity and equity within our workplace.
